School-Spirited Squads
School-spirited squads are made up of students from one school and promote other students to motivate players of sports teams and their fans. This type of cheerleading may come up with a routine and compete at local, regional and/or national competitions. A typical cheerleading routine is two minutes and thirty seconds with a combination of cheers, dance, stunts, and tumbling. But not all school-spirited squads compete. The main purpose is to cheer on sports teams at their school and raise school spirit! They normally cheer for football, basketball, and other school sports. Tryouts usually happen during the spring over a number of days held by the coach. These cheerleaders can range from novice to very advanced levels and can play a huge role in making the team. Personality, leadership, grades, and conduct is a huge factor in making the squad. Coaches are usually teachers or parents.
